The United States of America is the most successful nation in the history of the Olympic Games. In the NOC’s 27 Olympic participations before Tokyo 2020, it has finished atop the medal table a record 17 times.
American swimmers Chase Kalisz and Jay Litherland won the USA’s first two medals at around 10:38 a.m. local time – gold and silver, respectively, in the men’s 400-meter individual medley. Then bronze for Kieran Smith in the men’s 400 freestyle.

A total of 329 female athletes have been included in the team, making Tokyo 2020 the third consecutive Olympics where the US has sent more women than men.
Team USA has won 55 medals thus far with 20 Gold Medals, 21 Silver, and 14 Bronze Medals.

The United States is one of 206 nations competing in the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which began on July 23 and will end on August 8. The games, which were initially set for 2020 but were postponed owing to the present health crisis, will include 11,237 competitors from across the world competing for one of three medals: gold, silver, or bronze in their particular sport.

More than 600 of the athletes are from the United States. Returning Olympians like Simone Biles and Katie Ledecky, who have both won medals at previous Olympics, are among the competitors, as are newcomers like Sunisa Lee and Regan Smith, who are competing in their debut Olympics.
