England bowler James Anderson has surpassed former skipper Alastair Cook as the most capped English Test cricketer, having played 162 matches for his country.
On Friday, veteran England bowler James Anderson added another feather to his already distinguished cap, surpassing former captain Alastair Cook to become the country’s most-capped Test player. Anderson accomplished the feat against New Zealand in the second Test at Edgbaston.

Anderson is the only fast bowler in the game’s longest format to have taken more than 600 wickets. In Test cricket, he has 616 wickets, 98 more than Broad, the other active player in the top ten best wicket-takers list.

Anderson continued, ” “I’m fortunate to have a physique that can withstand the rigors of bowling.”I put forth a lot of effort to improve my fitness and talents. It’s about having the desire to show up every day and attempt to improve.
“I’ve only done it since I became a professional, and I’m hoping to keep doing that for a few more years.”
Anderson made his England debut in a one-day international against Australia in December 2002. He went on to play 194 ODIs and 19 Twenty20s, and his 375 caps across all three formats is also an England record.
He has played under eight different captains since making his Test debut against Zimbabwe at Lord’s 18 years ago.
On Wednesday, current Test captain Joe Root stated, “It’s a remarkable feat for any guy to play that many games.”To get to that point is a historic achievement for him.”
