Lionel Messi future: I’ll do everything to get him to stay at Barcelona, says Joan Laporta.
Joan Laporta, i Estruch is officially the president of FC Barcelona as of Wednesday 17 March when he took office in a simple ceremony but one of symbolic significance for Barça. The leader of the ‘Estimem el Barça’ campaign will govern the Club for a second time after a first spell between the years 2003 and 2010 marked by amongst many other things.
After being sworn in as Barcelona’s new president on Wednesday, Joan Laporta hugged Lionel Messi and promised to do everything in his power to persuade the La Liga club’s all-time top scorer to stay.
Josep Maria Bartomeu, Sandro Rosell, Joan Gaspart, and Enric Reyna, sporting leaders from the Club, were present at the event, which was organized by Ronald Koeman, Leo Messi, Gerard Piqué, and Sergi Roberto, coaches and captains of the professional teams.

In his speech at the Camp Nou, Laporta said, “I’ll do whatever I can to keep Leo because he’s the best player in history.” Messi and fellow captains Gerard Pique, Sergi Roberto, and Sergio Busquets were in attendance.
Barcelona was eliminated from the Champions League last week by Paris Saint-Germain, but Laporta urged his team to aim for a domestic double.
