New Zealand accepts decision to postpone Women’s Cricket World Cup.

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup postponed until 2022.

The decision was taken by the IBC (the ICC ‘s commercial subsidiary) after an extensive exercise in contingency planning which took into account the health, cricket, and commercial impact of COVID-19 around the world.

Local planning committee chief executive Andrea Nelson said:

“Our attention is also on hosting an impressive World Cup cricket here in New Zealand. Now we are going to deliver that in 2022.

“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of our key stakeholders and collaborators, including the Government of New Zealand, for their important involvement in the planning process, and for their continued support as we look towards February and March 2022.”

The ICC also confirmed that in 2022 Australia will host the Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 which was postponed due to COVID-19. India will host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 as planned.

“Today the Board ‘s decisions are in the best interests of the sport, our sponsors and, most importantly, our supporters. I would like to thank our BCCI sponsors, Cricket Australia and Cricket New Zealand as well as the governments of Australia and New Zealand for their continuing cooperation and contribution to a healthy return to ICC affairs.

“There has been no women’s international cricket played since the conclusion of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year and due to the varying impact of COVID-19 globally, that is likely to remain the situation for a number of the teams.

The format of the postponed ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup will remain as it was for 2021. Five teams have already qualified for the event and that will stand for 2022.
