The Argentinian received the award for the top scorer in Europe for the 2018/19 season.
A special day at the Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm. Leo Messi received the 2018/19 Golden Shoe this Wednesday, the sixth of his career and the third consecutively. Nobody has won more than him. The 36 goals (in 34 games) that he scored last season in the league have served to ensure a new European Golden Shoe and a continuation of his records.
The award is presented to the top goalscorer in league football across Europe, with the Argentine finding the net 36 times last season as Barca retained their La Liga title.
Messi was three ahead of nearest rival Kylian Mbappe, who scored 33 times for Paris Saint Germain as they won France’s Ligue 1.
“My team and my teammates, I would have never been able to win even one of these awards without them,” Messi said at the presentation in Barcelona. “This is a recognition for everyone, all the team.”
The forward, who won his first Golden Shoe in 2010, admitted he was disappointed to have missed out on Champions League glory again after Barcelona blew a 3-0 first-leg lead to Liverpool at the semi-final stage. However, he said he was conscious that the league should be the club’s priority.

Keep making history:
The Argentinian was already the only player in history to get five Golden Shoes. It should be remembered that he won the first in the 2009/10 season (34 goals), then two in 2011/12 (50 goals) and 2012/13 season (46 goals), and now he has accumulated three more consecutively: 2016/17 (37 goals), 2017/18 (34 goals) and 2018/19 (36 goals).
