Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is set to be sidelined for at least six weeks after it was confirmed he had a stress fracture in his back.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed after his side’s 2-0 defeat to English Premier League leaders Liverpool that it was a stress fracture that will keep him out for a lengthy period.

“He’s suffered a bad injury,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports on Sunday.

“Yeah it’s a (back) stress fracture, it happened against Wolves. It’s not happened before, it happened there and then.

“He’ll be out for a while. He won’t be back until after the mid-season break. Normally six weeks to heal, but I’m not a doctor, and then he needs rehab after that probably.”

Before the game at Anfield, Rashford tweeted: “Would have done anything to be involved today so really disappointed to miss out.”

Fifth-placed United next host Burnley in the league on Wednesday.
