Let fight between Lionel Messi and me continue in a good way, says Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who was awarded the 2017 Ballon d’Or at the Eiffel Tower on Friday, said that he hopes to play at a high level for few more years to come. Speaking to reporters after the presentation ceremony, the Portuguese captain added that he hopes the healthy competition between Lionel Messi and himself continues in the future.
With another win this year, the Real Madrid forward is now level with rival Messi on five Ballon d’Ors. Ronaldo had an impressive season with Real Madrid in 2017, and the side went on to successfully defended the Champions League title and won the La Liga.
Since 1956, it has been awarded by France Football every year, but for six years (2010 to 2015) it became the Fifa Ballon d’Or, however, Fifa ended its association in September 2016 and the world football’s governing body named Cristiano Ronaldo the world’s best male player of the year.
As for the whole 2016/17 season, Ronaldo scored 25 La Liga goals in 29 appearances and 12 in 13 Champions League outings. Interestingly, Cristiano Ronaldo was once trailing behind Lionel Messi 4-1 in 2012 and from there on, apart from 2015, he has pipped Lionel Messi every single time, with both of them sharing the trophy for the last one decade.
