Today FC Goa would look to break their winless streak at home when they take on NorthEast United in an Indian Super League football match at Nehru Stadium.
FC Goa, who are lying at the bottom of the table, were looking to come strongly in the second leg after they beat Pune City FC but their defeat against Kerala Blasters in the last match have placed them in a critical position as they now need to win all their five remaining matches if they are to qualify for the semi-finals.
FC Goa lost their last match 1-2 against Kerala Blasters after taking the lead and two of their players — captain Gregory Arnolin and Richarlyson Felisbino were sent off. Just like FC Goa, NorthEast United also need the three points to work their way among the top four and fight for a place in semi-finals.
In the last game, NorthEast United suffered their third consecutive defeat at home against Mumbai City FC and coach made it clear they need three points to take away from Goa.
NorthEast United are placed fifth with 10 points from eight matches. They collected six points from their first two matches but since then have not lived up to expectations.
“Even in the loss we played well but in our last match.
HALF TIME: NEUFC 0-0 FC GOA
The scores are level, although NorthEast have looked more cohesive going forward – and have created the better chances by far. Nelo Vingada’s team talk will be focused on improving their finishing, while Zico has a task at hand to motivate his players to claw their way back into the game – they are being dominated way too easily in the middle of the park.
GOAL: FC GOA 0-1 NORTH EAST UNITED FC (SEITYASEN)
NorthEast are making some good moves as they press forward for the first goal of the match. Second corner for them within two minutes but a good delivery fails to find a decent touch in the box. The corner from Yusa is worked deep where Seityasen collects, jinks to his left and unleashes ball that bounces off the back of Trindade and careens into the net. NorthEast United FC get ahead in the game.
GOAL: FC Goa 1-1 NEUFC (ROBIN SINGH)
Romeo skins Narzary down the right touchline and he careens into the box, before looking up and calmly picking out Robin Singh. The Indian striker calmly places it into the goal with a superb outside of the boot finish. Magnificent! FC Goa equalise…It’s back to 1-1 as Robin finds the back of the net. Atmosphere is electric in Goa.
There is a Second yellow card for FC Goa’s Sahil Tavora and he has to leave the field now. Fourth red card for Zico’s men. Goa are now down to 10 men now. NorthEast would sniff an opportunity now. Little over 10 minutes left in the match, and it’s a good enough duration to find that goal which would put them in front of the game.
Four minutes of extra time in progress. Still locked at 1-1. Both teams continue to charge in search of the last-gasp winner. NorthEast have a freekick in a very dangerous possession, and Romaric looks like he fancies it.
GOAL: FC GOA 2-1 NEUFC (Robin Singh)
Goa with a brilliant run. Survive the off-side trap and Romeo makes a brilliant move, beats the goalie and puts it in. Celebrations in the stands as this goal is enough for the team to steal three points. Robin Singh threads the eye of a needle with a magnificent ball that lets Romeo run through on goal. He rounds Subrata Paul with contemptous ease and strokes it in! Minute after, referee blows the final whistle…
